A vintage car that went under the hammer last Friday, 7th September at Cuttlestones’ auction house in Penkridge proved the star of its 2-day Fine Art Sale, with the hammer falling at £15,000.
The 1932 blue Armstrong Siddeley saloon was one of two vehicles consigned from a local estate to the sale – the other being a rather more recent 1987 red Peugeot 205 GTI. The Siddeley caught the attention of a number of collectors and vintage car enthusiasts with a local bidder – who already owns a similar vehicle and is a member of the owners’ club – placing the winning bid and collecting their purchase within the hour! The Peugeot also proved popular, selling for an impressive £4,800.
Elsewhere, the sale proved strong across the board with a number of high-end brands including Faberge, Tiffany, Cartier, Tag Heuer, Rolex, Maple & Co and others represented in various sections. Particular highlights included a 16th/17th C oil on canvas of the artist Peter Paul Ruebens, attributed to his circle, which sold for £2,100 to a local buyer; a large 19th Century carved oak musical longcase clock from a local estate which attracted 5 telephone bidders before selling at £1,900 - despite considerable damage - and an Oriental white metal three-piece tea service which sold for £1,200. MD and head auctioneer, Ben Gamble, says:
“This has been a cracking sale and we are delighted with the results – needless to say we have some very happy vendors! We had over 700 internet bidders register for this sale and a very strong contingent in the room both days – there was a real buzz about the auction and it was reflected in the prices achieved.”
Cuttlestones is now taking consignments for its next Fine Art Sale on 22nd & 23rd November 2018. To arrange a free, no-obligation valuation head to the Pinfold Lane sale room between 10am & 3pm on a Thursday, call 01785 714905 or email a description and photos to firstname.lastname@example.org
