Stone ‘Antiques Roadshow’ uncovers treasures and raises charity funds
Staffordshire auction house Cuttlestones joined forces with Old School Wines of Stone to host an ‘antiques roadshow’ style event on Saturday, 24th July. In addition to helping local people discover the cash in their attic, the event helped raise funds for Katherine House Hospice.
And among the items bought in there were some real treasures, as Cuttlestones head auctioneer, Ben Gamble, explains:
“The event was a great success – we had some really interesting pieces brought in for valuation, including a set of three majolica plaques in original frames valued at £300-£500, a pair of Wedgwood black basalt titian candlesticks worth £200-£300 and a Wilson Hepple Oil painting of a miner that was valued at £3000-£4000. It just goes to show, you never know what you’ve got hidden away at home! And of course, in addition to this we raised over £50 for a very worthwhile cause – Andrew and the team at Old School Wines were fantastic, giving visitors the chance to sample some fine wines and learn about the art of wine tasting as they waited for their valuation; in fact, it was so good, we’re planning another event in Autumn 2009.”
Cuttlestones is planning further antiques valuation events in Stafford, Brewood, Tettenhall and in Stone at Old School Wines throughout Autumn 2009, with all donations going to worthy local causes. If, however, you can’t wait until the next event to get your items valued, Cuttlestones holds valuations at its Penkridge sale rooms every Tuesday 2pm until 6pm, on Thursdays and Fridays from 9am until 5pm, and at other times by appointment.
If you’re interested in buying or selling at auction, Cuttlestones holds general sales every Wednesday with the next Fine Art sale set to take place on Friday, 4th September. For further information call Ben Gamble on 01785 714905.
