‘Blush the bear’ cake auction to raise funds for Children in Need

Calling all cake lovers – here’s your chance to indulge your sweet tooth while helping raise funds for a very worthwhile cause!

In aid of the BBC’s Children in Need campaign a delicious cake designed to look like Pudsey bear’s cute new friend ‘Blush the bear’ will come under the hammer at Penkridge auction house Cuttlestones’ Fine Art sale on Friday, 27th November. And this will be no ordinary cake - Cuttlestones has joined forces with Codsall-based cake decorating artist Heather Sweet to create a cake to remember.

Heather has turned cake decoration into a real art form, channelling her skills as a ceramic sculptor to create cakes for high profile corporate events and appearing regularly on radio and TV. The ‘Blush the bear’ cake will feature a delicious lemon sponge with lemon cream filling and will serve at least 60 people. If commissioned direct, the cake would cost around £100.00. Ben Gamble of Cuttlestones says:

“We wanted to do something to help Children in Need – the charity does excellent work, both at home and abroad, to make life better for millions of children. A cake auction at our next Fine Art sale seemed like a great way of raising funds, but we wanted the cake to be something really special. Heather was the natural choice – her designs are stunning and her cakes delicious, so whoever bids successfully for the cake will not be disappointed. In addition to the total amount the cake sells for, we’ve pledged match the 15% buyers’ premium and will be collecting donations in the office in the weeks running up to the sale, to help boost the final amount.

“And if you don’t have a sweet tooth, it doesn’t mean you can’t bid – the cake will be big enough to donate to a local school or maybe a ward at a children’s hospital, so please dig deep and help to make a difference!”

Heather’s sweet creation will go under the hammer at Cuttlestones’ Penkridge sale rooms on Friday, 27th November at 11am – if you can’t make the sale, you can leave a commission bid with a member of the Cuttlestones team, bid by telephone or live online via the-saleroom.com. Collections will also be taken for Children in Need in the auction office throughout the sale.
