Signed Dettori Racing Silks in November Fine Art Sale on view at Old School Wines Valuation Day

Cuttlestones Auctioneers are once again teaming up with Old School Wines of Stone who will be hosting another of their popular valuation days on Sunday 8th November from 12pm until 4pm. Everyone is most welcome to attend and bring along any items they would like valuing or even just find out a little more information about. The event is totally free of charge, however those wishing to make donation will be contributing to Cancer Research UK charity. Andrew Wilson and his team at Old School Wines will be on hand with some wine tastings to help the day go along and as a added bonus, Head Auctioneer and Valuer Ben Gamble will be bringing along the racing silks worn and signed on the back by superstar jockey Frankie Dettori when he rode the superb ‘Warrsan’, which look set to romp home to a great price at Staffordshire auction house Cuttlestones’ November 27th fine art sale.

The silks, which are expected to achieve in the region of £2,000 to £3,000, head the field in a catalogue with a distinctly equestrian flavour including a further set of signed racing silks in the colours of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, signed by a host of famous jockeys; a collection of stunning equestrian jewellery; limited edition Royal Worcester and Beswick Horses and a large bronze stlye model of a horse.

While there’s an obvious appeal to the equestrian market, the catalogue has something to please everyone, as head auctioneer Ben Gamble explains:
“We’re delighted to have the opportunity to sell the Dettori silks - thanks to Frankie’s combination of talent and charisma he’s become a real celebrity and the lot is sure to appeal to an audience far broader than the racing and equestrian fraternity. Following his amazing achievement of ‘The Magnificent 7’ where he won every race in one day at Ascot and his role as a team captain on TV’s ‘A Question Of Sport’, interest is likely to be even higher. And while there are a number of interesting equestrian items in the sale, for those whose lives don’t revolve around horses there’s a good range of furniture, ceramics, fine jewellery, silverware and Rolex watches.”

Non-equestrian sale highlights include an outstanding serpentine fronted chest of draws dating from around the 1840’s, expected to achieve £1,200. Interest is already growing in a large private collection of 11 long case clocks ranging in estimates from £300 to £2,000. The pick of the bunch being an beautiful early Victorian long case clock made in Bath expected to hit the top end of the £2,000 estimates.

The niche market of stamps is delivering some strong prices and is again set to do well with a strong private collection of hundreds of stamps which are estimated in excess of £2,000. Meanwhile some names are recognized by all and there is no exception in the case of Rolex watches. A gent’s Rolex Oyster Perpetual just one of the top named time pieces already included in the watch section this November.

If you’re interested in joining us at the free valuation day or any of the lots in the November 27th fine art sale but can’t attend on the day, you can still be in with a chance of placing the winning bid, courtesy of using the live online bidding via the-saleroom.com, bidding via telephone or by leaving a commission bid.
