Time is ticking on rare timepieces set to sell at Wolverhampton auction

At its upcoming Specialist Collectors' Sale on Friday 3rd May, Cuttlestones is set to feature some highly collectible examples of fine watchmaking, when several classic pieces - including an early Rolex - go under the hammer.

One such piece is a WWII RECORD MILITARY WRISTWATCH, with black dial and engraved markings to the case. Part of the W.W.W. (Watch. Wrist. Waterproof.) collection known as 'The Dirty Dozen' and commissioned by the British Army in 1945, this highly collectible item comes with a spare movement in tin and minor spare part. It is expected to fetch between £1,000 – 1,200.

Elsewhere, an IWC SCHAFFHAUSEN GENTLEMAN’S 18CT GOLD AUTOMATIC DATE WRISTWATCH with champagne dial stands to feature. This piece by the International Watch Company features a baton markers dedication to the case reverse and, dated 1976, is expected to command high interest and a price of between £1,200 – 1,400.
Finally, an exceptional example of Swiss watchmaking is offered in the shape of an early ROLEX GENTLEMAN’S OYSTER PRIMA with chrome-plated case and large winding crown. While these watches don't fetch as much as some of the later-20th century Rolex pieces do, they are highly sought after by collectors. Sure to draw interest from far and wide, this watch features an engine-turned dial with Roman numeral markers and wire lugs, and is set to fetch between £600 – 800.
Cuttlestones' client manager, Rosie Blackburn, is enthused at the prospect of the upcoming sale:

"Watches and timepieces always draw strong interest from an exceptionally dedicated collector community. Some of the pieces we have in the upcoming sale are extremely rare, and will attract interest from across the world, with bidding available via our live online service."

The lots will come under the hammer at Cuttlestones’ Specialist Collectors’ Sale at Wolverhampton Auction Room on Friday 3rd May. The fully illustrated catalogue will be available online via www.cuttlestones.co.uk and viewing will take place from 10am – 7pm on Thursday 2nd May and on the morning of the sale. For those not able to bid in person, live online, telephone and commission bidding options are available. For more information call 01902 421985 or email wolverhampton@cuttlestones.co.uk
