Calling all cricket fans! Here’s your chance to own an original piece of ‘the home of cricket’. Dating from 1887, the bench bears the seat numbers 1,2,3 & 4, and is set to sell at Staffordshire auction house Cuttlestones’ Winter Antiques Auction on Thursday, 28th November.
Head auctioneer and valuer Ben Gamble, who also happens to be a keen amateur cricketer, says:
“As a cricket fan this is a really exciting find. Through the ground’s evolution many early fixtures and fittings have simply been lost to time – so a late 19th Century bench is just the sort of thing keen sporting fans would love to see in their collection. We’d expect it to achieve between £300-£500, although with our live online bidding offering the potential for international bidders to get in on the act it could well soar.”
The bench will sell as part of a packed catalogue during Cuttlestones’ Winter Antiques Auction at its Penkridge sale room on Thursday, 28th November. Viewing is on the day prior to and morning of the sale, with commission, telephone and live internet bidding options available for those unable to attend on the day – call 01785 714905 or visit www.cuttlestones.co.uk to find out more.
